Can HIICAP Help You?
By: Ellen Gelting
Peggy Moran is so upset for seniors that she is learning everything she can about Medicare. “Figuring out Medicare is just way too much work for a retired person,” she said, “they get a book in the mail three inches thick and then have to make a choice that affects every aspect of their life.” A poor health insurance choice can be financially devastating, and if that's not bad enough, it could mean the difference between getting the medicine you need to live, and not getting it.
Peggy Moran is the new Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program (HIICAP) Coordinator and Counselor at Senior Services of Albany. She heads up an outreach program funded by the Albany County Department for Aging that has a singular mission: to make sure that every Albany County senior citizen gets the health insurance they need, with the best coverage that they can afford to have. With help from the Town of Colonie Senior Resources Department and the Town of Bethlehem Senior Services, she is busy doing just that.
